Just because you might not be able to scrap at Savvy crops IRL, doesn't mean you can't join in the fun!
Be here...Saturday 12 September 2009, from 8pm
You will need one 5x7 landscape orientation photo.
Products needed: - Cardstock or patterned paper for base - 2 x coordinating patterned paper - 3 x scrap strips of coordinating patterned paper...no bigger than 12"x3" - Dimensional Lettering - Brads - Journaling tag - Journaling pen - Scalloped edge punch or similar - Foam tape - Embroidery floss
Step one - From a full sheet of patterned paper or cardstock, cut a mount for your photo 5.5" x 7.5" (or if your photo is a different size, add 1/2", ie, 6x4 = 6.5x4.5. Stick your photo on and set aside.
Step two - From a full sheet of coordinating patterned paper, cut a strip measuring 11"x3.5" and adhere to base paper (either cardstock or pp) so that it runs vertically down the page approx. 1/2" from top and bottom and about 1" from left hand side. Doodle around edge of strip.
Step three - for this step you will need your scrap strips of patterned paper and your border punch....go and get them...I'll wait....
...for step three, you will need to punch out three strips that are 12" using your scallop border punch or similar (ie. threading water, uppercrest...whichever one suits). Don't worry about the width yet because we'll trim them down. I have used three different colours and used patterns that aren't very bold because they are only accents which vary in width. A bolder print might not show up the punch very well. I have used the threading water punch for all three strips.
Step four - take one of your scalloped strips and cut it 3.5" long, and approximately 3/4" wide. Stick the straight edge of the strip flush with the bottom edge of the vertical strip so that the scallop points up. It should fill the bottom of the vertical strip edge to edge.
Next, using the same strip from step 4, you will need a piece approx. 2.5" long and 1.5" wide. Stick that flush with the right side of the vertical strip, about 3" from the bottom of the layout....scallops pointing down.
Using the rest of that strip, cut it approx. 6" long and 1.5" wide. Stick this strip about 2" from the top...scallops pointing up. Butt this up against the vertical strip too.
Step five - with your second coloured scalloped strip, cut that approx 4.5" long by 1/2" wide and stick it down just under the scalloped edge of the top strip, and flush with vertical edge ...scallops pointing up.
Using the same strip...cut a length approx 6.5" long and 3/4" wide. Stick this down using foam tape with the scallops pointing down. Once again, it will sit flush with the edge of the vertical strip, and also overlap the scallop strip at the bottom. Your mounted photo should fit between the top scallops and the bottom scallops.
Step six - with the last scalloped strip, cut it to approx 2.5" long by 3/4" wide and tuck it just under the foam taped scalloped strip. The last strip sits flush with the right hand edge of the other scalloped edge....scallops pointing down. It should look like a cluster of scalloped strips of varying lengths and widths.
Step seven - stick down your mounted photo. It will sit between the top and bottom scallop strip areas. It sits about 2" from the left hand side of the layout.
Step eight - now we're going to make a couple of pinwheels. Cut one square 2.5"x2.5" out of one scrap of pp, and another square 1.5"x1.5" out of another scrap. Double sided pp works better. Fold the square diagonally, unfold, then fold on the other diagonal. Cut along the folded edges towards the centre, but not all the way. Put a glue dot or some glue in the middle and bring in the points. Stick a brad through the middle and attach to layout. If you're not sure what a pinwheel is, check one out here... http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/pinwheel/
I've clustered the two pinwheels at the bottom left corner of the photo with the smaller one higher than the other. Make sure they don't overlap. Cut a couple of 1/4" strips and stick them down to make the stems of the pinwheels.
Step nine - Stick your journaling tag down at the right hand side of your photo. If necessary, tuck it under a bit. Add journaling.
Step ten - Add your title at the bottom of your layout, starting from the right hand edge of the vertical strip, and under the scalloped strips.
Last step - stitch around your photo mount....if you don't want to stitch, add doodling. DONE!!
Thanks for sticking with me this long....if you need a hand, let me know. Sar will be opening the gallery folder on Wednesday, so upload your layouts then. I can't wait to see them all!
